Wrapping up the Fall and Heading into the Winter!

I hope that all of you had a wonderful holiday during our break last week!  We are looking forward the next three weeks of learning and I wanted to share a few bits of info for upcoming events for December as well as some successful events from this fall!

Turkey Drive and Food Drive
a Big Success!
Thank you for all of the donations we gathered for our Annual Turkey Drive and our Food Drive!

We were able to collect 84 frozen turkeys and 56 online turkeys!  We also collected over 700 food donations to donate as well!  Thank you for all you do to help others during the holiday season!

4th grade Celebrates
American Diabetes Month
Our 4th graders had the opportunity to learn more about health concerns during American Diabetes Month during  November!  They showed their support by wearing blue and posing for a picture to represent the symbol (circle) for Diabetes awareness!

Spirit Night at Spring Creek BBQ
a Huge Success
Our Spring Creek BBQ Night was a big hit once again this year!  Thank you to all of you that were able to make it out for the event!  We should hear soon from Spring Creek about how much we raised for the evening!

We will be having our first round of Parent/Community Tours to Town Center on Tuesday, December 9th!

This is something that we started last year in order to give our parents/community a chance to come in during the school day in order to see the learning that is happening and to know more about our goals as a campus!

There will be a morning tour from 8:30-10:00am
(major focus on Kinder, 1st, 2nd grades and Specials)

There will be an afternoon tour from 1:00-2:30pm
(major focus on 3rd, 4th, 5th grades and Specials)

If you would be interested in attending a tour, please click on the following link and fill out the Google Form, so we can contact you about visiting!

Giving Tree
Town Center 1st Graders are collecting new, unwrapped toys for children in need.  We will be donating
the toys to the Lions Club.

When you place your toy under the Christmas Tree by A hallway, please sign your name on an ornament and hang it on the tree!
1st Grade will be collecting through December 17th!

Holiday From the Heart
We will have our annual Holiday from the Heart Night on Wednesday, December 10th from 6:00-7:00pm!

Here are just a few of the stations you can participate in: Making reindeer food, book walk, making place mats and cards for the nursing home, Santa Pics and donated cans of food, making hospital books, art projects, hot chocolate goodies for our police officers and more!

Texan Town Going Strong!
Many of you may be familiar with our Texan Town at TCE!
This is an opportunity our learners have to choose jobs/clubs during the school year and participate on
Fridays throughout the year from 7:55-8:40am.

Our 3rd, 4th and 5th graders go through an application process and have choice in their jobs/clubs.  They have the opportunity to pick 3 jobs/clubs offered up in the three different sessions (fall, winter and spring) held during the school year.

Our 2nd graders work within their grade and the school to help with take care of all of our recycling and busting germs.  Then they also are able to participate in
brain busters and movie makers.

Our Kinder and 1st grades have opportunities to build, construct, engineer, and learn new technology tools during this time as well as visit our General Store, work with Literacy Liaisons and Reading Mentors as well as get to watch performances from our Drama Club!

Here is a copy of the sessions that our learners had to choose from for our Fall sessions.  We will be looking forward to our Winter Session starting at the beginning of January!

If you are interested in helping to partner with us for a job/club or have an idea for a club that you might like to help sponsor, I would love to visit with you!  We are always looking for more opportunities for our kiddos!
Just send an email to aapplegate@coppellisd.com or give me a call at 214-496-7800!

We have several wonderful parent volunteers who come each week to help facilitate or work with our groups!

A special shout out to Beth Reynolds, Alisa Kozlowski, Craig and Gina Warner, Shelby Bennett and Yumi Yamada who have been helping out this fall with clubs!

Colder Weather on the Way!

We are definitely going to have some cooler weather starting this week! (at least that is what the weatherman says)

Please make sure that your child brings their coat/jacket and gloves to school with them each day.  This is very important since we try to still have outside recess each day unless the weather does not permit due to cold temperatures or wind chill factors.

It is helpful for us if you can remind your child/ren to keep up with their winter clothing brought to school by placing it in their cubby or backpack.  Also, please make sure and not to share jackets/hats with other kiddos!

 Veteran's Day Ceremony
Just a quick reminder that our ceremony starts at 8:30am tomorrow!  We are going to have it in the gym, due to possible cold weather.  If you could please check in at the office before heading to the gym!  Also, scroll down to the last blog entry to see more info if you have a special Veteran coming tomorrow.  They will meet at 8:00am in the teacher's lounge for a small breakfast.

Spring Creek BBQ this Wednesday
Don't forget about our fundraiser evening at Spring Creek BBQ in Lewisville this Wednesday!  See the flyer from the last blog entry below for all the details!

Turkey Drive and Food Drive
We are gearing up for our annual CISD Turkey Drive and TCE Food Drive!  Please see the following flyers for info on our food drive and click the link below to donate a turkey online!  Remember that we will also be collecting frozen turkeys on Friday, November 21st in both of our car loops!

Car Loop and Crosswalk Safety

If you could please help us out in our car loops, to make sure to pay attention to kiddos crossing the crosswalks and the streets as they come and go to school.
It is a state law to not be on your cell phone and it helps us greatly when you are aware of your surroundings when driving through the parking lots and the car loops.

Thank you for your help as we always want to make sure everyone is safe each day!

Pansy Planting a Huge Success
A big thank you to all of our parents that were able to come out and help with our annual pansy planting this year!  An extra big thank you to Tim Tidwell who helped till up the ground for our flower beds and Beth Reynolds for helping to get our donations set up and ready to go for the event!  Here are some pics from that day!

Kindness Challenge
This week our Kindness Club (Texan Town Club) has challenged us all to take the Kindness Challenge!  I thought this might be a fun way for you to see how we are learning about the importance of being kind to others and how you might want to take this challenge as a family as well!
